I wholeheartedly recommend this experience! We signed up for it for my father’s birthday and left with smiles on our faces and fantastic memories of the day. Those in our party have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for a combined 150 years, and while we all love eating crab, none of us had ever had an experience learning about and catching them. This was a first for us…and it won’t be the last!
Lawrence is an incredibly friendly guide, eager to share his knowledge of and enthusiasm for crabbing with his guests. He gives excellent instructions and tips; by the end all of us felt comfortable using the snares, casting and catching crab and identifying them, all buoyed by his encouragement and support. Lawrence made it fun and very doable for beginners, and it was a delight to be out on Torpedo Wharf with him.
The luncheon was no less memorable. We learned how to clean and prepare the crab before enjoying a hearty seafood crab boil. Lawrence is generous with all he brings to ensure every guest leaves with new knowledge about crabs and seafood in the Bay Area (not to mention with full bellies!). It’s an experience that can be fully enjoyed by locals and visitors alike; Lawrence makes sure there is something new for everyone.
To have had this adventure next to the Golden Gate Bridge, with the city skyline in full view, was such a treat and made for a most memorable birthday celebration. We loved it. Thank you for your hospitality, Lawrence, we look forward to seeing you again with friends and other family members!
I booked the crabbing catch and cook experience on Airbnb as a surprise for my wife’s bday, and we both absolutely loved it! Lawrence was super knowledgeable about crabbing, and a great host (got lot of recommendations for local seafood spots in SF and the bay :) ). The entire experience was very beginner friendly, we ended up catching quite a lot of crabs and learned how to clean and cook them up as well. Can’t recommend this experience, as well as Durasnare, enough! My wife and I loved it so much we’ll likely continue crabbing on our own all thanks to Lawrence. Do yourself a favor, reach out to him and get involved!
My friends and I had the best time catching crabs with Lawrence! He was incredibly knowledgeable, a great teacher, and so much fun to be around. He made the experience about more than just catching crabs, it’s something we’ll always remember.
We had the BEST experience with Durasnare and with our guide Lawrence! My 3 friends and I did the catch and cook crabbing experience and honestly it was one of the highlights of our trip!!
Lawrence was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and encouraging from start to finish. He taught us everything from how to cast properly to how to catch and handle the crabs, and guided us through each step so we all felt comfortable and confident.
What really made the experience special was how much he genuinely cared about us having a great time, he made sure every single one of us caught a crab and kept the energy fun and exciting the entire time. You can tell he’s passionate about what he does and loves sharing the experience with others :)
He cooked the crab for us afterward and they were absolutely AMAZING. Such a fun and unique experience. We laughed the whole time and made amazing memories. I would 1000% recommend Durasnare and Lawrence to anyone looking for an awesome SF adventure!
On my final day in San Francisco, I wanted to do something memorable, and this ended up being the highlight of my trip.
As a solo traveller, I felt completely at ease from the moment I arrived at the pier, which made a big difference. His teaching style is clear, patient and genuinely engaging, so you’re not just watching, you’re properly involved in the whole process.
I originally got interested in crabbing after trying it at a restaurant earlier in the trip, and this experience took it to another level. Catching the crab yourself is one thing, but preparing and cooking it right there next to the Golden Gate Bridge makes it unforgettable.
The food at the end was incredible. Lawrence added prawns, sweetcorn, and potatoes, all cooked together in a rich, flavourful stock. It felt like a proper sea-to-table experience, not something staged for tourists.
If you’re in San Francisco and want something genuinely different, I’d highly recommend this.
